So, ever since I first got a Twitter account (uh, a year ago >_>) I've wanted to try an idea. 140 character fics. I'm always looking for interesting new writing exercises, and I thought it would also be a fun and useful way of utilizing Twitter to send something more positive out into the ether than just, "I'm having fruit loops for breakfast!" Also, because I love alliterations, I was thinking of doing it as a weekly thing every Friday. I never use the #FF hashtag, so why not reassign it? #FicFriday #140CharFic Long story short, I tossed the idea out to my feed yesterday (yes I know, Monday/Tuesday, not Friday, but people were having tough Mondays and I thought they could use a little cheer!), and it was met with a lot of positivity. I think I'm going to make it a thing from now on, and if you guys want to jump on it as well, all I can say is go for it. Here are my filled requests:

Hell on Wheels, Lily/Robert, for Laura: "But it wasn't until after the lecture, when he looked at her with eyes as pregnant as his Kansas thunderstorms, that she knew." The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., Brisco/Dixie, for Missy: "She's the fire in his bones, and he's the steady man she never did have. Together they reckon they're something akin to whole." Milliways 'verse, Maid Marian-Lily Bell, for Amanda: "She has a home to rebuild, a sure place in a troubled world. But so does Lily. A missing roof of hope, & faith in progress." Once Upon a Time, Graham/Regina, for Jen: "It's been forty years since she's seen him cry. Now as he shudders, pushing her back, he's unaware that there is one heart aching." Milliways 'verse, Charles Xavier-Queen Regina (Mills), for Fi: "He can feel it, even rooms away from the main bar. The echo, the humming. He clutches his head, and knows. The Queen is here." As you can see, it's fairly simple (though, holy COW some of the fics you guys have written me in return = CHILLS), and so far I've been including the @ names. Which would technically make these less-than-140-character fics. So far, my only rule is to have a "0" on spare letters by the time I'm finished. But, guys? It's really, really fun. Because now we need something mindless and silly and fun to balance out all the other stuff, I'd just like to say OMG THE MUPPET MOVIE OPENS IN THEATERS TODAY I AM SO EXCITED!!!11!!!1! Ahem. I have always loved the Muppets, all throughout childhood and up until now. I was heartbroken when pieces of the company were sold off, one by one, during the early-to-mid oughties - and subsequently gleeful when they bought back pieces, though not quite what they were. I've been dying for more Muppet media, and I have to admit I'm going to be sad now that the hype has culminated in the release date. My inbox has been filled with youtube updates of Muppet promotions, and my twitter feed (thanks to @MuppetsStudio and @ToughPigs) has been filled with fun news articles and things. I don't want it to stop! Ah well. I'm sharing a few of my favorite Muppet/Jason Segel related things. :D -Clips of Jason Segel hosting Saturday Night Live with special guests The Muppets! I recorded last week's SNL, and it was awesome for three reasons: 1) MUPPETS; 2) Jason Segel is actually the most adorable man that's ever lived; 3) Florence and the Machine were the musical guests. Oh, Flo. You so crazy. My favorite of the three clips is #2 (the "REALLY?!" skit), mainly because Seth looked like he was having a really good time. XD However, if you look closely in the last skit (#3), you can see Flo in the background as a Massachusetts bar patron. I'm endlessly amused by this. -American Way Magazine scans. I've read a lot of promotionals and articles over the last several months related to this movie, but this one is my favorite. This is the one that won me over to the sheer adorability that is Jason Segel. They're high-quality scans, and it's a really wonderful read. -Bakerella: The Muppets Cake Pops. Guys! Recipe and instructions for making 5 Muppet cake pops! I was looking forward to my nephew coming to visit me this week, and had planned on making a big deal out of spending a day goofing around in the kitchen making these cake pops before taking him to see the movie. Well, he isn't coming now, but I MIGHT MAKE THESE ANYWAY. Because they're adorable and fun. I'm definitely printing the instructions, anyway. And, finally, this - because it's just too cute: Jason Segel and Kermit the Frog's original video inviting Amy Adams to be in Disney's The Muppets. |

Part of me is thinking, "Wait, you mean it's only been a month since Dragon*Con?" and the other part is going, "OMG, how has this month gone by so fast?" Time. She is a funny, fickle thing. Anyhow, back in 2009 a film crew wandered around D*C and made a little documentary called "Four Days at Dragon*Con." Since then, the hour-long documentary has won an Emmy, been broadcast around the US on PBS, and is now up in its entirety on PBS Video. It has been one heck of a long time since I made a public entry here. Not for lack of want! But now I've entered that stage where it's been so long that I feel like I need something REALLY GOOD to say. You think I'm joking, but you haven't seen my doc files full of links and fic ideas and movie reviews etc etc for posting. This is me: crazy. Unfortunately, this post is all about DRAGON*CON PLANNING! So to everybody out there coming to D*C this weekend, here's the info on me, where I'll be, and the best way of catching me. I know this is going up super late in the game, but hey. It's me. The fact that it's going up at all is SO MUCH PROGRESS. *affixes a gold star to my forehead* ( Hotel/Arrival/Meeting up/Basic details ) ( Where you can catch me/Availability ) In Sum: WE SHOULD HANG OUT. To those I have tentative plans with, be sure you contact me so I can add them into my schedule/calendar. And, to all those not attending, if there's anything you'd really like (I used to offer phone calls from celebs, but last year they cracked down on that due to some really ridiculous lawsuits filed against the celebs. IDEK. So that's probably unlikely), such as pictures, video, an autograph, etc (subject to free vs. $$), let me know! I'll be doing video for some of the writing panels as I mentioned above, I'll be hanging around the Walk of Fame, Artists/Comics Alley, and the Dealers Exhibits, so I can hook you up. Maybe. The usual suspects apply (Farscape, 24, Pushing Daisies, Firefly, Psych, etc etc), but I am so open to the challenge of a new fandom, so long as I'm at least somewhat familiar with it; and I can do original fic based on a genre or theme (ie: "western" or "victorian ball"). Not a hugely intensive thing, but the occasional recipe post or cooking tip and info type thing. Because it's hugely underestimated how much a good, healthy meal can contribute to one's happiness.
